Currently being exhibited in the storefront windows at Japan Premium Beef, one of my favorite specialty butcher shops in the city (their surprisingly affordable, vibrantly red ground beef being the core component of my homemade double cheeseburgers), is this collection of meat balloons. As Design Boom explains, the Chicago design studio ODL created these playful-looking meaty objects by priming balloons with soap, then dipping them in latex to create the rubber shapes, which are then dipped/dyed/painted to look like various steaks, chops and sausages. A selection of these are available for sale on the ODL site. And if you’re in the NoHo area, stop by Bond St. to take a look — perhaps while you pick up some of the real thing for dinner.
