An interesting bit showed up in my inbox recently – all the way from Down Under. The Melbourne Music Festival is happening this week, and they’ve put together an interesting program that includes something they call a Cinemix, during which a DJ is given free reign over the soundtrack of a classic movie, mixing the score live as the film screens for an audience. This year’s Cinemix put DJ Dexter, who’s worked with The Avalanches, in charge of the score to La Haine, the French film from 1995 featuring a young, scrappy Vincent Cassel. DJ Dexter discusses the experience below.
