I’m slightly obsessed with round, thick-frame glasses of the David Hockney variety even though they don’t work for my face, which is why I love when the aesthetic is put to a different use. The smartphone stand by Nendo designed for Elecom is a beautiful example of this kind of re-appropriation, adding suction cups to each lens. If you’re always accused of being glued to your phone, this is a cheeky way of admitting you’re guilty as charged. Seen on Designboom.
If you’re braving the Black Friday crowds the day after Thanksgiving, why not stop in for a drink with us? All day Friday, we’ll have free Tiger Beer in the store along with a bunch of Black Friday special deals — our prices for Beats by Dre and the TMA-1 are too low to advertise, and those are only a few of our special sale items. In addition, we’re offering 10% off all day on all non-sale items. What’s 10% off of free beer?
Seen on Selectism — and not as if New York needs to seem any more like an adventure, but at least this print by Jesse Eisemann renders the city as the fun, jump-on-Yoshi-and-spit-out-some-turtle-shells-type adventure, effectively distracting us from the reality of our day-to-day “did that bum just spit on me?” adventure. The print is available at Imagekind.
Seeing our new Pocket Piano — we’re one of the few stores in the world carrying it, come in and check it out — I was reminded of the 2008 gem from the talented DJ Mehdi who was untimely ripped from this life in September. His memory lives on in song, especially one as grand, soaring and heart-stirring as this one.
GQ’s latest in their 10 Essentials series featuring Gildas Loaëc of Paris’ Kitsuné fashion/record label is worth reading for a number of reasons, not least of which because it includes one of our shop favorites, the beautiful headphones made by AIAIAI. If you’re unfamiliar with Mr. Loaëc’s storied past, just know that his time spent as part of the Daft Punk team and years spent working as a jetsetting DJ make his shout-out to the headphone a ringing endorsement. Plus, it’s part of a short list that also includes his Daft Punk commemorative gold album and a Swarovski crystal. Fancy company to keep indeed.
Don’t sleep on the collaboration between AiAiAi and Fool’s Gold Records, the Gold TMA-1, available in our shop and online starting today. Only 2,000 produced, this is a sharp design tweak of the classic TMA design — a great headphone for use at home, on the street or behind the decks.
In other Fool’s Gold news, they’ve just released the video for Duck Sauce’s “Big Bad Wolf,” directed by the king-of-music-video-weirdness Keith Schofield. Watch it above — it’s not exactly NSFW, but it’s not entirely not NSFW, either. I guess we’ll call it NENSFW, but NENNSFW? Either way, it’s hilarious.
Get ready, get amped, hold on to any and all of your hats; we’re excited for this one. The MakerBot Thing-O-Matic is a device that ‘prints’ 3D objects, creating you a copy in thermoplastic right before your eyes, and AC Gears is proud to be the first to offer it in a retail store. The unveiling happens Friday, Nov. 4th so, of course, we’re throwing a party. RSVP now on our Facebook page and come get a first look!
