Designer Gas Masks by Diddo Vilema. Look great in the summer while you stroll around the streets of NYC! Avoid the offensive urine-garbage-BO smell! You might get a bit sweaty but it’ll look so cool.
I LEGO N.Y. (read our extensive entry by Caleb here) is one of my favorite entries on Abstract Sunday, a New York Times blog by illustrator extraordinaire – Christoph Niemann. Christoph Niemann spoke at Creative Mornings a few months ago; Maria Popova wrote a great post about the event at Brain Pickings. Neimann talks about his life, work and happiness in this video- accompanied by his charming illustrations and magnetic personality. Remember, YOGA WILL DESTROY YOUR DESIGN CAREER.
There’s an air of anticipation in New York City – summer is coming to an end (it’s DEVASTATING) and it’s almost the fall fashion week. Again. The Mercedes-Benz Fashion week begins on September 8th, and designer Kevin Wang brought to my attention the Fashion’s Night Out app he worked on (available on both iTunes and the Android market). Now, unlike Mr. Wang, I am not remotely fashionable. But there’s still plenty to do for all the foodies, broke-ass college kids, crustypunks, everyone and anyone! Here are a few events in New York that caught my attention. I apologize for not being able to link the events directly, but most of these events do not have a dedicated website – please check out FNO’s website for exact time/location.
At alice + oliviais going to host a carnival! You get to play games and eat cotton candy and sno-cones.
More events are announced everyday on FNO’s website. Take some time to plan your night of debauchery – if it all becomes too overwhelming, find a dive bar.
Enjoy this wallpaper design from illustrator Nick Iluzada, presented by The Fox Is Black as part of its Sights & Sounds series. The series will involve different artists/designers creating desktop wallpapers inspired by Animal Collective albums. This one attempts to capture the spirit of 1999′s ‘Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished.’
Theophilus London’s new video for “Girls Girls $” is a wild and hilarious cartoon romp through NYC streets (Look! A corner bodega! And over there — Gray’s Papaya!), with animation that reminds me of the first cartoons I ever drew in MS Paint and learned to program at computer camp.
The Chance pop-up store is open now through the end of June on Elizabeth Street, and they’re featuring limited-edition prints of portraits created by Mary Matson depicting the season-appropriate striped shirts owned and loved by six creative women. Proceeds from the sales of these prints will benefit the Japan Earthquake Relief effort – visit the pop-up if you’re in the area or purchase online. Seen on Hi + Low.
