Soul singer icon Bobby Caldwell, who had his heyday in the late 70s and 80s, has been lately mounting a bit of a resurgence, partnering with producer Jack Splash and putting out music under the name Cool Uncle. It’d be a charming idea, even if the music weren’t really much good — but it is. Smooth, soulful and nostalgic in all the ways good elevator-friendly pop can be, it worms its way into your head and heart and you’ll find yourself humming along to it while browsing the supermarket aisles. Adding an additional silky voice like Cee-Lo’s to the mix works quite well, and now you can enjoy seeing the entire group’s Claymation alter-egos perform their song “Mercy” to some zoo animals, thanks to stop-motion videographer Joseph Baughman.
