This week it seems artist groups have been on a roll with emergent and interactive installations. A project by London based design studio Minimaforms called ‘Petting Zoo‘ combines the familiar Kinect tracking with robotic ‘Pets’ that react to the presence of participants and gestures. They manage to simulate a lifelike curiosity, and organic appearance through these interactions. They also evolve their behaviors over time based on previous encounters.

When we came across this article and began to watch the video, I happened to also be listening to ‘Falling Away From Me’ by Korn. The innocent and adorably playful machinations displayed in the video took on a darker image for me than I believe Minimaforms originally intended.
