This is Constellaction. An installation/experience by panGenerator at the Transformations Festival designed to generate intricate emergent behaviors from individual autonomous building blocks. The blocks would be oriented by participants, placed in various patterns to give it an interactive element. The blocks themselves were designed to react to outside stimuli, with photoresistors on each surface of the tetrahedrons for detecting changes in light. When light is detected, it is programmed to react by projecting it’s own light and noise.

When close enough together, they would react to the light given off by one another. From a single source of light, waves spread out like a ripple in a lake or a series of dominos. A total of 400 tetrahedrons were used in this installation, and continued to change during the event thanks to it’s participants. Simple technology was used to create a beautiful evolving work of art.
